Recently we held an AMA and the attendees were very engaged. We thought it would be a good idea to share the questions asked and the responses as we're sure others may have the same questions.

    Today's Q&A:

Can you detail the differences between a Google Sheets Destination vs Sharepoint List. Why would you have to use one vs the other? I've been taking Power Automate to take google sheet and convert to Excel.

    Answer:

Both of them have a very similar set of capabilities when talking about how ProntoForms interacts with them. In both cases, we can append submission data to them and we can create new sheets/lists when they do not exist. However, with a MS List we have the ability to define a Unique Key which will tell the service if we want to create a new row, or update an existing row.

MS Lists also ties into other services in the Microsoft ecosystem like PowerBI and PowerAutomate very well. The main item to really look at is what you are currently using in your business today. If you are using Microsoft for everything, there is no need to use a Google Sheet.

One key difference between the two (right now) is that Google Sheets can handle data from repeatable sections effectively. Google Sheets will have 5 rows of data for a form with 5 entries in a repeatable section. Each of those rows will have the same information from the main form and the unique repeatable section data in the columns from the repeatable section. For the same form output in MS List, the repeatable section data is all included in a single row.

Once MS List is able to receive repeatable section data into separate rows the same way, our company intends to step up our use of PowerAutomate, PowerBI, etc. on the Microsoft platform.
